Just a little bit gorgeous.

I know I covered a tiny part of fashion down under in my last post, but I just can't ignore Cybèle by Cybèle Wiren, a label which I may love as much as Jil Sander and Dries Van Noten. Her clothes are bold, unique and a wee bit sexy -romantic rock chic without being over-the-top. Plus her A/W '07 collection is dress-focused (yay!) and the prints/fabrics are delish.

Lost Down Under.

So it looks like I didn't do a proper post when I said I would on Wednesday, but I have a very good excuse that I have yet to think of. Also I have lost my camera which I am surprisingly calm about considering how neurotic I normally am when I have misplaced something. It does mean I have no updates about from Thursday onwards...probably a good thing if I'm honest because I spent Thursday in red fleece pants, and a grotty I heart NY tee until I absolutely had to remove myself from the lounge to go out. The week was a bit of a failure, no?
Sidenote: I've never really paid any attention to Australian designers, I've seen and liked designs by Karen Walker and Alice McCall but that's been the extent of it. Until a few days ago anyway when I accidentally stumbled onto TV, a label set up by two Melbourne -based designers, Monika Tvanek and Ingrid Verner. They won a design award last year for their first collection, and have just opened their first flagship store. I love how playful and eclectic, but wearable their clothing is (yes, even the latex leggings!)

Obus is another Australian based label which made me incredibly happy because it's clothing based on excellent design with longetivity in mind; there's no neon or garish embellishments, just simple yet dreamy clothing (with lots of layering!) in muted and neutral tones.

And last but not least is Kate Hurst, Sydney-based designer who uses great fabrics and prints to achieve stylish and feminine designs which seem partially influenced by particular decades.

Practically the weekend.

Back to jeans again. I think seeing how every wardrobe has to have a day with jeans...and I guess mine is today. I saw Mulholland Drive today, and I was left so confused. I felt like I was in film class again where I have to watch scenes over and over again to understand a small part of the plot. Did anyone else watch it and understand what was going on the first time through?
Excuse my crappy photography, I apparently have the perma shakes. And I'll get round to updating properly tomorrow for sure!
(It's Wednesday! Mid-week! Two days till Friday!)

Winter is here.

Tuesday - it's only Tuesday and I'm bored. I've spent the entire day lounging around the house, getting in my mother's way. I can't wait to go back to uni so I can have lounging rights again. I know I complain about Lancs rubbish factor but I like having my own living space. Being at home is nice because I can catch up with my closest friends and family, but sweet jesus if I have to hear my mother tell me that my room is a mess (it's not. It's organised clutter) one more time, I'm going to lose it. I really think that phone calls once every two weeks, X-mas and two weeks at Easter are sufficient. Or am I just rather intolerant?

Beth Ditto is not my muse.

It is hard being fat and fashionable. I'll concede that I'm not exactly Miss Ditto, but if I keep going the way I am now, it won't be long. I'm sort of that awkward shape between normal and "curvy" which looks shit on anyone smaller than 5'8, and I'm 5'4. It makes dressing difficult because you try on a billion things and end up throwing on skinny jeans and a t-shirt just to make life easier. However, I've come across a few pictures which have made me realise that I'm on a slippery slope to boring land.

This frighten me because they are older than me and also once-upon-a time, I cared about what I looked like too. I may not have been as well dressed as them but I made an effort. I also have a ginormous collection of unworn and unloved clothes which are crying out to be worn, and it's no longer a surprise that my mother asks me whether I want to give them away to charity because I never wear them. But, it stops here. I've decided to wear a different outfit everyday for at least week (I'm breaking myself in) starting today - even though all I really have to do is go to the library and make a quick run into town ( I don't have a life until Wednesday at least.)

On unexplained absences and pathetic excuses.

I'm a little bit convinced that due to my shabby treatment of you guys recently, you will have deserted me for more regularly updated and amusing blogs. I hope this is not the case. I have just been very busy, had the flu (I am currently extremely disgusting and I'm host to a number of vile viruses), and been on the lookout for interesting things to post about.
If you have yet to forgive me, I think Glory Chen shoes will help you change your mind. A company established in San Fransisco by Joy and Vicki Chen, the shoes are designed by Joy Chen who started off in graphic design and moved into shoe design and construction. I think you can easily see the influence of her graphic design background when you see the almost sculptural heels, and I love how quirky they are too (I'm not yet quite sure whether they're pretty or ugly shoes.) They're still the kind of shoes that could fix a crappy day instantaneously.

My (somewhat fickle) heart has also gone running after a concept; 365 Trousers by Eduard Serda, which means that Serda will send you 365 pairs of unique trousers so you never wear the same pair for an entire year. The trousers are sent monthly in a beautifully designed trunk. The trousers range from daring to classic. If I wore trousers often, and earned enough to justify this, I'd go for it. He has every pair listed at his website, along with the fabric samples that inspired him for the month. He sticks to different themes each month, for example January is hand painted/embroidered fabrics and December is leather so there is a kind of coherence to each month, though I'm pretty sure if I rolled up to work in a pair of leather trousers everyday for a month, my boss would think I'm getting paid too much.

Beaut.

I have label crush. On Rodarte, brainchild of Laura and Kate Mulleavy. A mixture of romantic, ornate fabrics and colours, with contemporary design and styling. (Look out for the shoes too, they are incredibly sexy. On par with Giambattista Valli's winter beauties).

(Hair envy again! I think matt hair is so much more attractive than shiny, glossy hair. And this colour is surprisingly pretty, not boring).
